i have JUST an Sri and the AP and have been considering getting a TBE but i realized that i barely get traction at all in the first two gears!! if i were to continue modding my car it would be to no point or purpose because i would never find anywhere to use it. i have an SU motor mount which eliminated the wheel hop and i have Eagle F1s as my tires. is there anything i can do to actually use the power my car makes? if i ever push the throttle more then like 50% in second gear i lose traction. and first gear? forget it i have to like shift out of it immediatly to not lose traction....

the tires are stock size, but i dont know the tire pressure......it doesnt matter how i go into the throttle, obviuosly when i mash it i lose traction almost immediatly....like at about 3000 rpms. if i ease into it i still lose it like a few 100 rpms later.

would getting the side engine mounts help?

Check your tire pressures while they're cold in the morning before driving and let us know what they're at, fronts being most important in this case. There's a good chance whoever installed them set the tire pressure way too high and that's causing the issue. For instance, Tire Rack inflated a wheel/tire combo I bought to 36psi cold, which isn't bad, but I still lowered it to 34. It's possible yours were inflated even higher.

Also, it would help a lot to get wider tires next time... I can accelerate off the line without losing traction noticeably faster with my 225's than with stock width tires.

Stock tire size (215) is way to small IMO.

GTi's come with 225 and they have 80 less ft/lb torque lol.

You need to get some wider tires. I have 225s Eagle F1s and I am just now breaking traction a bit in second because of the Cobb SRI, AP, and Racepipe. Plus its getting colder out so our engines are performing alot better

Im bumping up to 235s in the spring. Sticking with Eagle F1s though. They are a GREAT A/S tire and I dont feel like purchasing a summer tire...have to purchase ANOTHER set of winter tires...and have my summer tires go in less then 10K miles cuz of the soft compound.

And I remeber reading the thread talking about how tire width doesnt matter....ya I think its total bullshit. I was spinning my tires in 2nd with my stockers...switched to the 225 Eagle F1s and I could no longer spin 2nd gear (and the stockers are a summer tire). I have ALWAYS noticed a difference in traction when switching to wider tires...and why do car manufactuers put wider tires on the back of RWD sports cars? To look sweet? uhh no.

Bump up to 225s or 235s (might be hard to fit 235s on stock rims...I know personally 225s fit fine on stockers) and you will get alot better traction.

my buddy has summer tires 225...and he doesnt break traction in 2nd...he is more modded then I am.

So not exactly sure how you have 245s and still break traction lol

Winter + Summer tires = fail

+1, along with his AP removing the power limits in the first two gears.

I really think he has the same tires as me...Eagle F1 (all season)

yea i do have the Eagle F1s and it doesnt really get that cold in florida anyways...but anyways because of this lack of traction i can never launch properly or get any kind of performance reading from the AP. i know the launch is mostly my fault but ive tried feathering it and everything.....i dont expect traction in first but it would be nice to have it at the top of second....

[/quote] the AP removes power limits in the first 2 gears ? I thought it just raised the boost cut limit but still limited torque in gears 1 and 2.

To the OP, I break traction easily in gears 1 and 2 and now 3rd sometimes with the 1.03 maps. You just have to go easy in the first couple of gears, when you hit 3rd the fun begins. So the extra power doesn't really help with the first 2 gears but when you are on a roll and click down to 3rd or 4th the power is nice. I would check your tire pressure and when you change tires go wider as this definitely helps with wheel spin.

from an expert:
"Friction is proportional to the normal force of the asphalt acting upon the car tires. This force is simply equal to the weight which is distributed to each tire when the car is on level ground. Force can be stated as Pressure X Area. For a wide tire, the area is large but the force per unit area is small and vice versa. The force of friction is therefore the same whether the tire is wide or not. However, asphalt is not a uniform surface. Even with steamrollers to flatten the asphalt, the surface is still somewhat irregular, especially over the with of a tire. Drag racers can therefore increase the probability or likelihood of making contact with the road by using a wider tire. In addition a secondary benefit is that the wider tire increased the support base and makes it hard to turn the car over in a turn or in a mishap.

best way to make any car hook is to have it set up properly .. our suspension is way to sloppy lol you want traction get a set of coil overs (will help with weight transfer), then a nice set of mounts since companys are finally gettin those out into the market to keep your motor from movin around like a junky tryin to sleep after gettin his hands on an 8 ball, and finally a good set of tires and if you believe that wider isnt better for straight line then i dont know what to tell you because the more rubber you have in contact with the road the better your chance, less isnt more in this situation lol. but then again with all this comes a good amount of money, vibrations, and poor tire life (i go through 2-3 sets of radials from spring to the end of summer/beginning of fall with my mustang lol) so i mean you gotta take the good with the bad.

EDIT: The best mod out there, least expensive and the easiest to live with ... driver mod ftmfw lol
